December is fast approaching and the places are filling up. Is this year a case of local is lekker? The reason I ask is that I have contacted numerous resorts locally to find out they have no availability. Forever resorts is one and this is the reply I received:

We are fully booked for that period of stay all our resorts.

Yes by all means I have left it really late to decide to take the family away and get some holiday time away in between Xmas and new year. The dates I requested was from the 26 Dec to the 02 Jan. They have half a dozen resorts. The fullness does not stop there another holiday option was Port Alfred. I have emailed numerous places and only found 2 cottages that had availability. So has the recession not hit South Africa? Or has it hit and people have opted for a local holiday this year?

Judging by the prices of flights and the usual fullness of flights between mid December and middle January one can certainly say that the recession has certainly not frozen December holiday vacations. If you would like to fly to London for December and come back before Christmas then you must be prepared to fork out at least R10 000 for a return ticket, if not more depending on the dates you need to travel. Early jan the flights to Europe are not out to disappoint with regards to charging premium fares, if you want a one way ticket to fly to London on the 05th January 2010 you will be paying in excess of R11 000 yes that is for a one way ticket!

There are still bargains to be had over December have a look at these specials from Club Med for December / that is all inclusive! Click here for the specials.

Ok so you are planning that ultimate travel package abroad. You do your home work and get the package booked and off you go. You have a great holiday with a few gripes and moans here and there however on the whole you enjoyed the holiday. Now when you were there you stayed on the left hand side of the town however when you get there you see that the right hand side of the road is really where you wanted to stay. (I am using this to illustrate a simple point I am sure you can add in your own example) You get home only to chat to your friends and family when you get home and they say yes of course you should have stayed on the right I would have told you that?

My point is tell everyone where you plan on going, for how long and why you are going, it is for work, pleasure or just to escape for a while. This may change the nature and positioning of your holiday depending on where you are going. You do not want to get back to hear ” Yes I would have told you that” or similar. It is no fun and makes an ultimate holiday a simple slap in the face. Do your homework before you go and speak to people that have been there or done it before. Just because your travel agent says so that you will agree when you return. Their point of view is just that, one persons point of view, get a few views before you make that final payment.

Speak to friends and family as often they have been, sure take what they say where it comes from and with a pinch of salt if you have to. Get a few views and see if the underlying left or right side of the road is the same, maybe it really is not and that was just your point of view? Maybe now is not the best time to travel. Do your home work and ask for advice often it is free!
