Southern Sun hotels launches Facebook booking service – A first in Africa!

The days of only booking your accommodation through a travel agency, or through a specific hotel website, is over. Now guests can interact with Southern Sun hotels and book their accommodation through the Southern Sun hotels’ Facebook page. An innovative first among the large hotel chains in Africa, Southern Sun offers potential guests the opportunity to check availability and directly reserve rooms via the company’s Facebook page – without leaving Facebook. According to a study that measured the digital competence of 89 travel brands including hotel, airline and cruise companies, web traffic to travel brand sites fell 8% in March 2011 vs March 2010, but during the same period, visits to Facebook pages jumped 20%.

“At Southern Sun we are continuously identifying new means of offering exceptional service and convenience to our guests. Offering a reservation page on Facebook gives us the opportunity to interact and cultivate relationships with potential guests in a seamless way, before they have even walked through the doors”, says Graham Wood, Managing Director Southern Sun.

Starting with huge radio announcements with 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Talk Radio 702 and various elements in and around the Southern Sun Grayston Hotel, the campaign will culminate in a massive show of support on the 9^th of June. United We Shall Stand.

On Wednesday the 9^th of June from 12-2pm, we’re calling on all South Africans to stand united, hand in hand, in support of Bafana Bafana. We will form a line of support through the streets of Sandton, from Rivonia Road down Grayston Drive, along 5^th Ave, down Maude Street and back up Fredman Drive – all starting and ending at the Southern Sun Grayston – the home base of our boys.

They are open and are looking fantastic! Had the privilege of a tour yesterday of the hotel. I like I like. This is certainly going to be the new place for business meetings, board meetings or a social drinks and dinner. The view is spectacular. There is tons of parking in Hyde Parka and the hotel is easily accessible from the underground parking lot. It well deserves it’s 4 stars. They have really pieced this master piece together very well. The mod cons in the rooms like the wide screen plasma TV, cordless phone or the ipod docking station they have done very well.

Have a look at this for a view: Yes that disappearing horizon is the view from the deck!

If you plan on staying here be sure to request a view and choose the right room type or you could be stuck with a view of the shopping center roof. The restaurant is called Bice Ristorante and with the view and Italian cuisine it is bound to be a winner.
